BARDONECCHIA – Every real biker knows Stella Alpina motormeeting, climbing the Sommellier hill; in 53 years it has been always organized by word of mouth between bikers, in Rochemolles over Bardonecchia, High Susa Valley, which unpaved dirty road takes to 3000 meters of the Hill between Bardonecchia and the foot of Rognosa d’Etiache, a peak 3382 meters high.
As usual, the multi coloured tent city is built in the plain of Grange du Fond, at Rifuglio Scarfiotti ( 2179 meters) in front of spectacular waterfalls, from where the scenic hairpins begun, towards Pian dei Morti to arrive to hard ones, very complicated, climbing to the top where there is a glacier skiable until 1970, that now it’s a snow field.
In this motormeeting, the highest in Europe, you can see extraordinary motorcycles.
In 2018 edition on saturday 7th july at 3.30 p.m. at Saint Ippolito church, in Bardonecchia, Borgo Vecchio, there will be the motor blessing, then there will be a parade through the country and the climbing to the hill. This year it was impossible to organize the contemporary world event Ktm Adventure rally, for which in 2017 the austrian company had repaired the Sommeiller road.
The last 2km are now still full of snow and the city of Bardonecchia didn’t spend any money for the cleaning. Only hot temperatures, during the next weeks, will free the last part of the road which drives to Europe’s bikers roof.
A wonderful “adventure road”, opened in 1962 to serve the lodge and summer ski facilities on Sommeiller glacier.
